Bulgarian diplomat Nickolay Mladenov will head an "executive committee" for the Gaza Strip, which is expected to coordinate between the so-called board of peace and a Palestinian technocratic committee tasked with the day-to-day running of the strip, reports the Financial Times, citing two sources familiar with the preparations for the next phase of the peace plan.
Financial Times recalls that former Bulgarian foreign minister and former defense minister Nikolay Mladenov served as the UN Special Envoy for the Middle East peace process between 2015 and 2020, often acting as a mediator between Israel and Hamas.
According to the Financial Times, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair was the only person identified for the board when US President Trump unveiled his 20-point plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas in late September, but has been dropped from consideration following objections from several Arab and Muslim states.
