Flu has now overtaken COVID-19 at the beginning of December. For the first time, the share of positive flu tests in the past week has exceeded 10–12%, Chief State Health Inspector Angel Kunchev told bTV. According to him, the dominant strain is A(H3N2).

The flu season usually peaks at the end of January. If the wave begins before the longer holiday breaks around Christmas and New Year, it could help reduce the epidemic spread in Bulgaria, former director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases Professor Todor Kantardzhiev said for BNR.
