Anti-government protests will be held in Sofia and across Bulgaria

A protest under the slogan “Resignation! Pevski and Borissov out of power!” will take place this evening at Sofia’s Independence Square. Demonstrations are planned across the country as well. It follows the mass protests against the 2026 draft  budget and the cabinet on December 1.

“The strength of dissatisfied Bulgarians is the most powerful weapon against the mafia! They are afraid. Let us be even more numerous this time! Otherwise they will continue to pretend they haven’t heard what the protesters want,” the organizers from “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” said on Facebook.

Opposition submits motion of no confidence in cabinet, prepares more protests

Protesters will pass through 19 checkpoints, announced Chief Inspector Ivan Georgiev, head of the “Mass Events” sector at the Sofia Directorate of the Interior. “We call on citizens to provide us with the necessary assistance to remove individuals who act as provocateurs,” he added, quoted by BTA.

The protest will also include participants from the “Students Against the Mafia” Union, which is organizing a student protest action with students from various universities in the country. A student march is planned to join the general civil demonstration at Independence Square.

At the same time, the party “Vazrazhdane” is organizing a protest against the introduction of the euro in front of the Bulgarian National Bank. The party is also calling for the resignation of the “mafia government.”
