Healthcare professionals protest for fair pay

Healthcare professionals from across Bulgaria, including nurses, midwives, paramedics and laboratory technicians, took to the streets today in a national protest calling for fair pay and improved working conditions. Protesters wore ribbons bearing the words 'I protest'.

The protest in Sofia

Their main demands include a starting salary of €1,550 for all sector workers, as well as adequate public funding for outpatient care for newborns and patients recovering from strokes, heart attacks or cancer.

'Next year, we will allocate significant financial resources to healthcare professionals. Yesterday, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova mentioned €100 million, and I confirm that figure,” said Health Minister Silvi Kirilov at a briefing.
