More than 40 people were arrested during last night’s mass protest in Sofia, held under the slogan “Resignation! Peevski and Borissov Out of Power!”, the Sofia Directorate of the Interior reported. After the demonstration, police mainly detained groups of men dressed in black.
Unlike the protest on December 1, the demonstration passed without major incidents. Young people wearing masks and hoodies tried to set waste containers on fire, but the situation was quickly brought under control.
Police found pyrotechnics, sprays and masks on the detainees. Some of them did not have identification documents.
Two of the people detained at the checkpoints around the protest in the so-called “Triangle of Power” were carrying large amounts of money. One of them had 1,500 euros, and the other – 10,000 leva, BGNES reported.
Meanwhile, the Sofia City Court has upheld the detention of four individuals arrested following the anti-government protest in the capital city on December 1. Julien Zhelyazkov, Kristiyan Yonchev, Lachezar Tuleshkov and Martin Ivanov are charged with hooliganism—throwing pyrotechnic devices as well as a glass bottle at police officers on the night of the protest, BTA reported.
