Weightlifting champion Nasar wins 'Sport Icarus' award for second year running

Olympic and world weightlifting champion Karlos Nasar has been named the winner of the “Sport Icarus” award of the Bulgarian Sport Foundation for the second consecutive year.



Nasar earned unanimous recognition after claiming his third European title at this year’s championships in Moldova and winning the world title with a world record in the clean and jerk in the 94 kg category at the world championships in Norway.

The Bulgarian men’s national volleyball team received unanimous backing to win the “Sport Icarus” Team of the Year award after finishing as runners-up at the World Championship in the Philippines.

Ski racer Albert Popov, who won a World Cup slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, and Tervel Zamfirov, the men’s parallel slalom snowboard world champion, were honoured for their outstanding performances. The Sport Icarus awards ceremony will take place on 19 December.
