The National Assembly accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov’s government. All 227 MPs present in the plenary hall voted unanimously in favor of the proposal.
The government’s resignation was submitted yesterday by Rosen Zhelyazkov, who stated that, under the Constitution, his cabinet will continue to perform its duties until a new government is elected, ensuring continuity in governance.

During the debate, MP Bozhidar Bozhanov from We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (PP-DB) said that the real reason for the cabinet’s fall is the deep political crisis in the country, caused by Delyan Peevski’s involvement in politics. “Peevski’s isolation started from the square; it is our duty to complete it and become a true European democracy”, emphasized Bozhidar Bozhanov.
MP Toma Bikov from GERB-SDS stated that it is impossible to govern in a situation of protest tensions that exceed normal levels. “We never intended to govern against the situation and trends, and we have demonstrated this repeatedly. We assessed that it would be impossible to implement our programme in such an environment”, added Toma Bokov.
President Rumen Radev is expected to hold consultations with the parties represented in Parliament and may grant up to three government-forming mandates. If no government is formed, the National Assembly will be dissolved, and a caretaker government will be appointed.
