"Bulgaria will adopt the euro on January 1st," confirmed Balazs Ujvari, European Commission spokesperson, responding to questions from BNR about the impact of the government's resignation and "Vazrazhdane" party's request to delay the adoption.
"The situation is very clear. There are a number of criteria that must be met for this purpose, and Bulgaria has met them. The relevant decisions have been made. It is envisaged that Bulgaria will use the euro from 1 January next year," said the Commission.
When asked if this was definitive, Mr Ujvari reiterrated that the relevant decisions had been made. Paula Pinho, head of the Commission's press service, also confirmed this, emphasising that all decisions remained valid.
