The Institute of Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" won second place in the MARS robotics competition held during the NeurIPS conference in the United States. The conference is one of the world’s leading forums on artificial intelligence, the institute said.
INSAIT competed against 18 teams and secured the runner-up position using its CoVLA method in the category where robots must autonomously control their movements and collaborate with each other.
“This is a huge challenge because, when multiple robots work together, they must coordinate without interfering with each other — even when they block each other or when objects around them are moving. This enables teamwork between machines,” said INSAIT.
The MARS competition tests how well multiple robots can operate together, not just under ideal laboratory conditions but also in a real-world environment.
