Sofia Zoo has officially presented its new addition — a little alpaca, called Indy. The animal was born on September 22, Bulgaria's Independence Day. Indy is housed with his mother in a quieter section of the zoo, where his keepers closely monitor his development — from weight gain and appetite to behaviour and adaptation. The baby is fed a special milk replacer that covers his needs until he is strong enough to be returned to his other siblings.

The Sofia Municipality points out that the parents and the zoological team are taking special care of Indy to ensure a peaceful start in life and that he will be presented to the general public as soon as he gets stronger and adapts to the surroundings. 2025 is a successful year for the Sofia Zoo — the number of newborns and additions of various species is increasing.
The presentation of Indy comes at a time when the institution is completing its preparations for the winter season and attention to the comfort and well-being of the babies remains among the team's top priorities.
