At the beginning of this week, “We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” will submit a proposal to amend the Electoral Code aiming to restore machine voting in its original form, Deputy Chairman of the coalition’s parliamentary group Bozhidar Bozhanov told BNR.
According to Bozhidar Bozhanov, machine voting will help eliminate most of the flaws in the electoral process seen in recent elections, such as overwriting and crossing out ballots. This will be achieved by restoring the protocols from machine votes, as well as by limiting voting to machines only in polling stations with over 300 voters.
MP Bozhidar Bozhanov reminded that the Constitutional Court had identified instances of ballots being filled out on behalf of sectional election commissions. In his words, these issues can be resolved precisely through the machine voting system used before the amendments to the Electoral Code at the end of 2022, when voting machines were turned into ballot printers.
