The outgoing government has tasked the minister of finance with waiving language rights when issuing a decision in a procedure before the European Commission, the government press service reported. This means that English will be used as the working language for adopting and notifying the decision. By way of exception, the Bulgarian government agrees to waive its rights under the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, according to which texts from the EU to the institutions of a member state or to a person under the jurisdiction of a member state are to be drafted in the language of thе respective country.

The waiver of language rights aims to achieve faster issuance and communication of decisions in specific European Commission procedures, as well as in rulings by the Court of Justice of the EU regarding cases of unlawful state aid.
