To mark 85 years since the birth of pop singer Emil Dimitrov, who was born in Pleven, the city is holding four concerts. Following the success of the first two performances on 5 December, two more will take place on 17 December at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Katya Popova Hall.
Entitled 'Ako si dal' (If You Have Given), after one of the Emil Dimitrov's most popular songs, the event was organised by the municipality and is free to attend. Songs by one of Bulgaria’s most beloved singers, including “Ako si dal”, “My Country, My Bulgaria”, and “Arlekino”, will be performed by musicians and singers of all ages.
Emil Dimitrov (1940–2005), a singer and songwriter, was one of the biggest names in Bulgarian pop music. Born on 23 December 1940 into an artistic family — his father was Magician Miti (Dimitar Dimitrov), and his mother, Anastasia, was his assistant, Madame Sisi — he was admitted to the acting programme at the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in 1960. He made his debut as a singer that same year with his own song, ‘Arlekino’, launching a career that would make him one of Bulgaria’s biggest pop stars.
