Marieta Georgieva has set foot on the southernmost point of the Earth after a 110-kilometer ski trip, BTA has reported. She is the first Bulgarian woman to cover the distance from the so-called last degree to the geographic South Pole.

After climbing Mount Vinson in Antarctica, on December 14, Georgieva successfully completed a 110-kilometer ski trip from the 89th degree south latitude to the South Pole. The expedition is part of the educational mission of "Little Explorers - from Everest to Antarctica" Foundation, which has a goal to inspire children and young people to show interest in science, geography and the study of extreme environments.

Marieta Georgieva, who is the third Bulgarian woman to conquer Everest, has already climbed six of the seven continental summits and has reached one of the two geographic poles. This brings her closer to the list of fewer than 100 people in the world who have achieved the Explorer Grand Slam – climbing the seven continental summits and reaching the North and South Poles.
