The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) has declared its readiness to organize national, sectoral, and regional protests and strikes to defend the rights and incomes of Bulgarian citizens. The reason, according to the union, is the “irresponsible decision” of the National Assembly not to adopt the state budget laws.

In a statement, the CITUB Coordination Council adds that the legislative branch has chosen the path of “political impotence” by adopting an “extension law” for the 2025 budget instead.

“At a time when Bulgaria is on the final stretch toward membership in the eurozone, the lack of budgetary predictability and rising social tension send a damaging signal to international partners and undermine economic stability. Social peace cannot be sacrificed for the sake of political games,” CITUB states.
