The Border Police General Directorate marked its professional holiday on Monday, the Bulgarian News Agency BTA reported. On December 22, 1887, the first Border Guard Act was published in the State Gazette.

During celebrations, the head of the Bulgarian Border Police, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, reported a 70% decrease in migrant pressure this year, a huge increase in the number of uncovered crimes related to smuggling, and a record number of busted criminal groups involved in migrant trafficking.

The celebrations were attended by outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and outgoing Interior Minister Daniel Mitov.

Regarding the adoption of a law extending the 2025 budget, Zlatanov said that this issue should be discussed by politicians, but in his opinion, all employees should receive decent remuneration. "However, we have the drive and motivation to work under any conditions, and when there is a problem, we are the first to try to solve it and the first to make sacrifices," Zlatanov added.
