In a situation of prolonged political instability, the resilience of the state depends on the sustainable functioning of its core public institutions, said Dimitar Radev, Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), in a statement to the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). The central bank plays a key role in maintaining economic and financial stability, Radev emphasized. He stated that he would not accept the position of caretaker prime minister, as this would call into question the independence of the BNB.

In the interview, Radev commented that extending the state budget under the current conditions is “the most adequate possible option,” as it allows for the maintenance of fiscal discipline and the preservation of relative economic stability.

He also noted that joining the eurozone creates a stricter and more predictable governance framework and is viewed positively by financial markets
