Stricter measures against illegal tour guides are being prepared

The Ministry of Tourism is taking action to limit illegal tour guide activity in the country. This was clarified at a working meeting between the ministry and the professional tour guide organizations. They requested changes to the Tourism Act that would allow fines for unfair tour guide activity to be imposed and collected on the spot, including by the police.

Letters will be sent to diplomatic missions in the country with information about the requirements of Bulgarian law when exercising tour guide activity. Tour guide organizations expressed concern about the way Bulgaria is presented to foreign tourists by unlicensed guides and insisted that each group be led by a local, registered tour guide as a guarantee of quality and control.
