Bulgarian cabinet renews Velislava Panova’s mandate as Consul General in Toronto

The Council of Ministers has decided to reappoint Ms. Velislava Vasileva Panova to the position of Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in the city of Toronto, Canada, with a consular district covering the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Manitoba, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Newfoundland and Labrador, as well as the three territories - Yukon, the Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.

On 29 October 2025, the Council of Ministers adopted a decision relieving Velislava Panova of the position of Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto, Canada.

“Canada is a priority foreign policy partner and a trusted ally of Bulgaria. The expansion and deepening of bilateral relations with Canada consistently rank among the priorities of Bulgaria’s foreign policy. Sustained efforts are being made to further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Canada in priority areas for Bulgaria such as trade and investment, energy, innovation, security and defense, climate change, education, science and technology, and culture.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Toronto plays an important role in the upward development of relations with Canada, working in a focused manner with individual Canadian provinces to strengthen cooperation, expand ties with representatives and structures of the Bulgarian community within the consular district, provide professional consular services, and assist Bulgarian citizens.

The consular district of the Consulate General in Toronto encompasses a large Bulgarian community, work with which is among the main priorities of the mission’s activities and contributes to the preservation and promotion of Bulgarian culture and traditions in Canada. The results achieved in recent years in these areas constitute an excellent foundation that the mission should continue to build upon under the leadership of Consul General Velislava Panova,” the reasoning for the reappointment states, as reported by BGNES.
