The ski area at Bulgaria's Pamporovo resort in the Rhodope Mountains will open on December 28, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported. The main ski runs in the resort are already being prepared.
According to the Mountain Rescue Service, around 15–20 cm of natural snow has accumulated in the resort. After temperatures dropped below zero, the slopes have also been covered with artificial snow from snowmaking machines.
On December 28, some of the ski runs will be accessible to skiers. In the following days, preparation of additional ski runs will continue. Relying on weather forecasts that predict continued subzero temperatures, Pamporovo resort expects the entire ski area to be open by January 1–3.
Hotels in Pamporovo are fully booked with tourists for the Christmas and New Year holidays. The first charter flights with British tourists for this winter have already arrived, and charter flights with Irish groups are also expected on December 28.
