The National Revenue Agency is conducting widespread inspections for unjustified price increases related to the introduction of the euro, reported Anna Mitova from the institution. So far, nearly 700 inspections have been conducted nationwide.

80% of the detected violations related to unjustified price hikes involve food, 10% concern medicines, and 10% involve household goods.

“The most common explanation given is an increase in rent or utility costs. However, routine inspections prove that this is not true. We have issued 65 fines for unjustified price hikes”, said Anna Mitova.
