From the beginning of next year, state regulatory authorities will move from issuing warnings to imposing fines on unscrupulous traders who unjustifiably raise prices in connection with the introduction of the euro. This was reported at the regular meeting of the Euro Mechanism, convened by outgoing Premier Rosen Zhelyazkov. At the meeting, the preparations of authorities to monitor attempts at price speculation starting from the beginning of 2026 were discussed. The Commission for Consumer Protection and the National Revenue Agency will carry out enhanced oversight of pricing, including dual labeling of prices in leva and euros on product tags in stores, with particular attention to unjustified price increases.
