Life expectancy in Bulgaria is increasing

The average life expectancy in Bulgaria is increasing, with men reaching 71.9 years and women 7.4 years higher - 79.3 years. This is shown by the 2024 report on the implementation of the Updated National Strategy for Demographic Development of the Population in the Republic of Bulgaria (2012 - 2030), approved today by the government.

Compared to 2014, the average life expectancy for men increased by 0.7 years and for women - by 1 year. The data show that in 2024, the population of Bulgaria decreased by 8,121 people. At the end of the year, 6,437,360 people lived in the country, which represents 1.4% of the EU population. In 2024, 52,189 people changed their usual place of residence from abroad to Bulgaria. Of these, 51.5% are citizens of non-EU countries, 34.9% have Bulgarian citizenship, and 13.6% are citizens of EU countries.
