Bulgaria to exchange criminal records with the US

Bulgaria will send a diplomatic note to the US Embassy in Sofia regarding strengthening the partnership in the field of access to criminal records as part of the measures to meet the criteria for Bulgaria's accession to the US Visa Waiver Program. This is stated in a government decision issued today.

The partnership, which aims to protect the national security of both countries, is related to the exchange of information between the competent institutions. The exchange of such information is a requirement for countries wishing to join the United States Visa Waiver Program, established in 1986. It allows citizens of the countries included in it to travel to the US without a visa for a period of up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes, the government press service has reported.
