From concerts to anniversaries, academic events to national celebrations, 2025 proved a landmark year for Bulgarians in New York.

The Bulgarian Consulate General in New York has established itself as a cultural hub where the community feels welcome while promoting Bulgarian culture to the city’s residents. The Consulate and Bulgaria’s Consul General in New York, Angel Angelov, reported the highlights in a Facebook post.

During the year, the Consulate organised a wide range of cultural events showcasing Bulgarian heritage in the United States. These included classical music concerts, such as the Bulgarian Concert, which drew thousands of visitors.

The Consulate also marked the 20th anniversary of the Hristo Botev School in New York and the 10th anniversary of the Bulgarian Education Centre in Nantucket.

Bulgarian-American academic ties were strengthened through events in collaboration with the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG), the American College of Sofia, and the Teach for Bulgaria programme.

For the third consecutive year, Bulgaria’s national holiday, 3 March, was celebrated with the raising of the Bulgarian flag at Bowling Green Park by the Wall Street Bull. The Mayor of New York once again extended his greetings to the Bulgarian community.

The Consulate’s “Take a Book, Share a Book” library continues to grow, with hundreds of books borrowed more than matched by new donations from the community.
