The Council of Ministers of Bulgaria has officially declared 2 January 2026 a non-working day. The move comes in connection with the introduction of the euro as the country’s official currency.

The government said the measure is intended to allow sufficient time for technical adjustments and the adaptation of systems across both the financial and non-financial sectors.

Officials added that this would help minimise operational risks and ensure a smooth transition to the euro.
