Today, 65 years ago, the Snezhanka Cave, located in the Western Rhodopes, was discovered. Three climbers from the “Kupena” tourist association in Peshtera entered it and spent a whole day, captivated by its beauty.

The cave was formed by the Novomahlenska River more than 3.5 million years ago. The artifacts found in it show that around 600 BC it was a refuge for the ancient Thracians.

With its length of 145 meters, Snezhanka is one of the smallest caves in Bulgaria, but among the most picturesque. It is rich in stalactites - the largest of which is 1.27 meters long, as well as stalagmites, stalagnates and other formations. It is also notable for its five ponds, in which cave pearls can be seen. The cave is also a place for hibernation of protected species of bats.

Snezhanka is included in the 100 National Tourist Sites. It got its name because of a cave formation resembling the fairy-tale character.
