“The Republic of Bulgaria notes with concern the latest fabricated claims by the authorities in Skopje, which sharply diverge from the essence of the European Consensus of 2022,” the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its website.

The position comes in response to North Macedonia’s decision to present the draft of the Plan on Community Rights in English, despite the fact that the document will be implemented by its institutions with regard to its own citizens and would logically be in a language accessible to them.

The Plan on Community Rights is a step envisaged to follow the inclusion of Bulgarians in the Constitution, which would allow Bulgaria’s neighbours to open accession negotiations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains. The ministry adds that it welcomes the words of North Macedonia's Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski that he will accept all remarks of the Bulgarian community in the Plan and expects him to keep his promise.
