From 10:00 a.m. on January 6, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will be implemented at all land border crossing points in Bulgaria. On October 12, 2025, the system had already been introduced at the Kalotina border checkpoint and at all external air, river and maritime borders.

The EES system records data on nationals of non-EU countries who travel for short-term stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Border control procedures for individuals subject to the EES system include the collection of biographical data and the capture of biometric data at the border crossing point, such as photographs and fingerprints. The purpose of the EES system is to help prevent illegal immigration and enhance security in the Schengen area.
