In 2025, a record 49,389 new passenger cars were purchased in Bulgaria, announced the Association of Car Manufacturers. Compared to the 42,957 cars sold in 2024, this represents an increase of 6,432 vehicles. The previous post-1990 record was in 2008, when 45,478 new cars were sold—8.6% fewer than last year.
In the last two months of 2025 alone, 8,241 cars were registered in Bulgaria, averaging 135 cars per day. According to the Association of Car Manufacturers, the sales growth is driven by rising incomes and the lower overall cost of operating a new car compared to buying and maintaining a used one.
Meanwhile, sales of light commercial vehicles and heavy trucks, used by small and medium-sized businesses, dropped by 13% over the year.
