The Maritime Administration Agency has asked the Chinese owner of the damaged ship “Kairos” to reimburse the costs incurred by the state for the towing of the tanker. The agency has served a notarial invitation to the Bulgarian agent of the shipowner through a private bailiff. By January 12, 270,371 euros must be paid. This includes the full amount of the costs for the operation to remove the “Kairos” from the shores of Ahtopol to the Burgas Bay.
The operation, which took place on December 15, 2025, involved 3 tugboats and a special generator, which was used to activate the hydraulic system and raise the ship’s anchor. The tanker, which was stricken in Turkish waters, was illegally transporting Russian oil and was attacked at sea. Then Turkish tugboat Timur Bey abandoned the ship in Bulgarian waters.
