The state of emergency remains in effect in the town of Krumovgrad (Southeastern Bulgaria), as well as in 26 other settlements in the area due to the heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. January 8 has been declared a non-school day for children and students.

Strong winds are expected, and an orange weather alert for significant precipitation has again been issued for the Kardzhali region. The torrential rains have flooded roads and residential buildings and caused river levels to rise significantly. More than 20 settlements have been left without drinking water.

The heavy rains have also cut off the village of Zimornitsa, as the only bridge connecting it to the village of Grivka was destroyed. Damage has also been reported in the municipality of Kirkovo following intense localized rainfall.

The Basin Directorate-Plovdiv reported that measures have been taken to protect the population due to river overflows in the Krumovgrad and Kirkovo areas.
