Farmers cannot be competitive without fair incomes and equal standards in trade with third countries, outgoing Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov said at a high-level working meeting of EU agriculture ministers in Brussels.

Georgi Tahov emphasized that the loss of competitiveness of European farmers is not due to their own actions, but is a result of rising costs, regulatory pressure, and unequal conditions compared to imports. “The costs of energy, fertilizers, feed, labor and services continue to rise, while market returns remain uncertain. This directly threatens the economic sustainability of farms, particularly in countries like Bulgaria, where incomes are below the EU average”, Georgi Tahov emphasized.

Minister Tahov called for continued EU financial support for agriculture and measures to reduce the administrative burden on farmers.
