More
and more Bulgarians are leaving the UK. Bulgarians on the island are
the third largest group of European citizens who are leaving.
According to data by June 2025, about 11,000 Bulgarian citizens have
returned to Bulgaria, while less than 4,000 arrived in the UK. Such a
negative migration balance has not been observed for years.
The
main reasons for this trend is the increased cost of living. The
prices of rent, food and energy on the island continue to rise, while
the incomes of many migrants remain mostly unchanged. In addition,
there are serious problems in the National Health Service and
difficult access to medical care.
There
is also an unofficial factor that leads to the outflow of Bulgarians
from the country - discrimination, both in the workplace and in
access to social services.
The
largest group leaving Britain are Romanians - about 37,000 people per
year. They are followed by Poles, but Italians, Spaniards, Portuguese
and French are also among those leaving. These data clearly show that
Britain is gradually losing its attractiveness as a place for working
and living for many Europeans, bTV reports.
