There is an anti-mafia consensus in society, and the first step toward making it a reality is holding fair elections, President Rumen Radev told journalists during the commemoration of the 148th anniversary of the liberation of the town of Belovo and the Belovo region from Ottoman rule. He added that the major task facing parliament is to restore trust in the electoral process.
According to the Bulgarian head of state, voting in the upcoming anticipated snap elections should be conducted using voting machines, with electronic reporting of the results and manual counting of the control receipts, in order to ensure genuine trust.
Asked whether he would take part in the next parliamentary elections, Radev replied: “If you are asking about a party—after so much talk—it is clear that such a party exists, and I can say that it is the party of the anti-mafia consensus, which insists on fair elections. Such a party unites all democrats—from the left and the right—regardless of where they hold membership or whether they are politically active at all, because we all need fair elections and we all need democratic and free development.”
