On Friday, January 16, President Rumen Radev will hand over the third mandate to form a government within the 51st National Assembly to the candidate for prime minister nominated by the parliamentary group of the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms. This announcement was made by the presidency.

The Alliance for Rights and Freedoms (APS), associated with Ahmed Dogan, is the seventh largest parliamentary group with 15 MPs.

'We will accept the mandate and discuss the details with our colleagues before announcing our next steps,' said Hayri Sadakov, chairman of the APS parliamentary group, thanking the president for his choice. 'We accept the third exploratory mandate given to our parliamentary group as recognition of our consistent efforts within the 51st National Assembly to uphold the principles of democracy, statehood, and the institutional unity and strength of the state,' he said.

According to Bulgaria's constitution, the first exploratory mandate is given to the candidate for prime minister from the largest parliamentary group, the second to the second largest, and the third to a parliamentary force chosen by the president. GERB-SDS and PP-DB returned the first and second mandates, respectively, unfulfilled.
