Italian elite club Pisa has officially announced the transfer of Rosen Bozhinov, who plays for the Bulgarian national team, from Belgian club Royal Antwerp. The Bulgarian defender has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract.
Currently at the bottom of the Serie A table, Pisa is assembling a strong squad for its battle to avoid relegation. According to unconfirmed reports quoted by Sportal.bg, the team will pay nearly €6 million to Bozhinov's former club.
The EASports agency noted on Instagram that "the amount paid for Rosen makes him the most expensive transfer of a Bulgarian defender in the history of Bulgarian football and puts him in the top 10 most expensive Bulgarian footballers ever sold", though the sum was not specified.
Born in 2005, Bozhinov moved to Antwerp 18 months ago from CSKA 1948 for a reported fee of around €500,000. This season, he has become a regular starter for the Belgian club and has demonstrated significant sporting progression. This earned him a call-up to the Bulgarian national team, for which he has played three matches.
