Dimitar Belichev, Michaela Raidovska and Plamen Petkov are Bulgaria's three nominees for the position of European Prosecutor. This decision was made by a special commission appointed by outgoing Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev, with Deputy Minister Stoyan Lazarov as chair. Yesterday, the commission heard all six candidates.

Dimitar Belichev is a European Delegated Prosecutor and a prosecutor at the Plovdiv District Prosecutor's Office. Mihaela Raidovska is also a European Delegated Prosecutor and a prosecutor at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. According to BTA, Plamen Petkov is a prosecutor at the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office.

With the Council of Ministers' approval, the three nominations will be sent to the EU for further selection.

European prosecutors are appointed by the Council of the EU for a six-year term. The new term is expected to begin at the end of July this year.

The term of office of the first Bulgarian European Prosecutor, Teodora Georgieva, was due to expire on 29 July 2026. However, she has been temporarily suspended from office due to a disciplinary investigation against her. Dimitar Belichev has been appointed as her deputy.
