The European Commission has approved the national defense plans of eight EU member states, marking an important milestone in Europe’s efforts to strengthen its security. The Commission has submitted a proposal to the Council to approve funding for Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Spain, Croatia, Cyprus, Portugal and Romania.

The European Union has announced a Roadmap to 2030 aimed at mobilizing up to EUR 800 billion for defense. This includes EUR 150 billion for joint procurement under the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) instrument. The mechanism allows for interest-free financing of defense projects. Bulgaria is expected to receive more than EUR 3.2 billion under the SAFE instrument.

The group of eight member states will be eligible for approximately EUR 38 billion after the loan agreements are signed. Cyprus is set to receive EUR 1.18 billion, while Romania will receive EUR 16.68 billion.
