The import of labor from non-EU countries is a temporary measure, outgoing Deputy Premier and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev said in parliament.

According to Tomislav Donchev, the future of Bulgaria’s labor market does not lie in importing foreign workers, but in encouraging Bulgarians living abroad to return to the country. In his words, return migration is expected to increase once GDP per capita reaches 70% of the EU average, BTA reported.

“The key factor for the competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy will be the quality of human capital”, Tomislav Donchev said in response to a question from the Vazrazhdane party during a parliamentary blitz control session.
