A yellow weather warning for cold conditions has been issued for 14 districts in northern Bulgaria as cold air continues to affect the country.

Saturday morning will see notably low temperatures, ranging from around –10°C in the north-eastern regions to approximately –3°C in south-western Bulgaria. In Sofia, temperatures at dawn will be close to –2°C. Despite the cold start, the day will be mostly sunny, although the morning will be frosty. Increased cloud cover is expected over south-western Bulgaria before midday, but this will clear in the afternoon.

Moderate north-easterly winds will blow across much of the country, strengthening to strong northerly winds in eastern Bulgaria and allowing even colder air to move in. Daytime highs will range from –3°C in the Ludogorie region and the eastern Danube valley to around 4°C in the far south-west. In the capital, Sofia, the maximum temperature will be around 3°C.

Along the Black Sea coast, it will be mostly sunny, windy and cold. A moderate to strong northerly wind will persist. Air temperatures will reach 1–3°C, while sea temperatures will remain comparatively mild at 8–10°C. Moderate to strong waves are expected.

In the mountains, the weather will be predominantly sunny. During the morning, there will be more extensive cloud cover over the western Bulgarian ranges, where light snow may fall in isolated areas before clearing quickly. It will be windy, with moderate to strong north to north-easterly winds. Temperatures at 1,200 metres will be around -1°C, dropping to approximately -5°C at 2,000 metres.

On Sunday, the cold spell will continue. Minimum temperatures across much of the country will range from –12°C to –7°C, while daytime maximums will be between –5°C and –6°C in northern Bulgaria, rising to 2–3°C in the far south.
