The
government has been working on extending the so-called extended budget
until the adoption of Budget 2026. This was announced by Deputy
Minister of Finance Kiril Ananiev at a meeting of the National
Council for Tripartite Cooperation. "Until the election campaign
cycle begins, we believe that this so-called extension law will have
to be extended until the adoption of a regular budget for the current
year," Ananiev said.
He
pointed out that the extension law provides that if revenues were not
implemented in the planned amounts, expenditures would be reduced
proportionally.
In
December 2025, the parliament voted on the so-called extension law on
the budget after the draft budget for 2026 was not adopted following
mass protests in the country.
