President Rumen Radev has submitted his resignation to the Constitutional Court, and is now waiting for its ruling. This information was released by the press office of the presidential institution.

According to Article 97 of the Constitution, the president and vice-president of Bulgaria can terminate their mandates by submitting a resignation to the Constitutional Court. Once the president has submitted their resignation, the Constitutional Court will determine whether the circumstances specified in the Constitution have been met for termination.

The Constitution states that, when the head of state resigns, the office of president is to be assumed by the vice president until the end of the term. The current vice president of Bulgaria is Iliana Yotova.

To date, no Bulgarian president has resigned.
