Outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev congratulated Nikolay Mladenov on his appointment as High Representative for Gaza. The three met in Davos ahead of the establishment of the Board of Peace.

“Nikolay Mladenov’s appointment to this important position is recognition of his long-standing efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East. I am confident that he will spare no energy or effort in carrying out this highly demanding mission, which also has the support of US President Donald Trump,” said Zhelyazkov.

Outgoing Foreign Minister Georgiev added that the appointment recognises Bulgaria’s potential to contribute to the peace process in the Middle East.

Mladenov assured the caretaker prime minister that the Board of Peace initiative aligns with both UN Security Council Resolution 2803 of 2025 — which sets out a plan for governance, security, and reconstruction in Gaza following the conflict — and President Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza. He added that under the board’s charter, financial contributions from participating countries are voluntary and no state is obliged to provide funding, BGNES reported.
