“Demographic and socio-economic processes clearly outline a systematic erosion of human capital in Bulgaria—both in quantitative and qualitative terms.” This is stated in the Annual Report on the State of National Security of Bulgaria, which was adopted by the government on January 12.

''Accelerated population ageing, declining birth rates, and chronic staff shortages in the security, healthcare, and education sectors, as well as in other strategic sectors, along with technological deficits and regional disparities, are limiting the country’s capacity. The labor market is failing to mobilize the potential of younger generations”, the authors of the document note.

The government notes that the adopted report covers 2024, without explaining why there has been such a delay, 24chasa.bg, segabg.com and standartnews.com report.
