The value of the small consumer basket reached EUR 58.80 in January. This represents an increase of EUR 0.75, or 1.3%, compared to December, announced Violeta Ivanova, Deputy Director of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research at the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB), at a press conference. The price survey was conducted between January 6–10 and compared with December 2025 data. The increase in the value of the basket, which includes 20 basic food items, services, and fuels, is mainly due to seasonal increases in the prices of tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, milk, oil, eggs and coffee.

The small consumer basket in Bulgaria continues to be EUR 10 more expensive than in Romania and at least EUR 6 more expensive than in Croatia, even though wages in those two countries are higher, noted CITUB President Plamen Dimitrov.
