Bulgarian swimmer Tsanko Tsankov claimed two medals at the Winter Swimming World Cup in Gdynia, Poland, bringing his total haul at the event to three.

On Sunday, in air temperatures of minus 12°C and water at minus 0.4°C, Tsankov took gold in the 450-metre race with a time of 5 minutes 30.66 seconds. He also secured silver in the 200-metre race, finishing in 2:22.03.

The shorter race proved challenging after the guiding rope — positioned a few metres below the swimmer to aid orientation — came loose due to ice, causing Tsankov to lose direction several times.

These results followed his victory in the 1,000 metres on Saturday. “I managed to finish the hardest swim of my life. I am very happy that I beat the competition in the 1,000 metres at the Winter Swimming World Cup in the icy waters of the Baltic Sea,” he wrote on social media.

The championship, organised by the International Winter Swimming Association (IWSA), attracted 273 swimmers from 19 countries.
