Sofia will have 3 km of new metro line and 3 new metro stations this summer, the Sofia Municipality announced. The route is expected to enter service by August 1.
The section is 93% complete. The tracks have already been laid, and finishing works are currently underway. Testing is planned next. The new stations will provide a fast and convenient connection for over 45,000 passengers between the residential districts of Hadzhi Dimitar, Suhata Reka, and the farthest district, Levski G.
Twenty-eight years after the first train began operating, Sofia Metro now has 52 km of lines and 47 metro stations, serving 470,000 passengers daily.
Construction is also underway on 10 additional metro stations, which are expected to open by 2027. The metro remains a key priority for Sofia as a sustainable, fast, and environmentally friendly mode of urban transport, the Sofia Municipality said.
