President Iliana Iotova continues meetings with officials constitutionally eligible to serve as Bulgaria’s caretaker prime minister. Today, she met consecutively with the governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, Dimitar Radev, and deputy governors Petar Chobanov, Radoslav Milenkov, and Andrey Gyurov.
Radev, Chobanov and Milenkov all declined the post. Gyurov, who met the President last, said that he was willing to assume responsibility for the caretaker premiership. “I told the president that I am ready to take on the responsibility of caretaker prime minister, provided it is under clear principles and without hidden conditions. This means that Bulgaria is Europe, where free and fair elections take place,” he said.

On 27 January, Iotova met with Parliament Speaker Raya Nazaryan, who also declined the role.
Further meetings are scheduled: on 29 January, the President will meet Bulgaria’s Ombudsman, Velislava Delcheva, and Deputy Ombudsman, Maria Filipova; and on 30 January, she will meet the Head of the Audit Office, Dimitar Glavchev, and his Deputies, Margarita Nikolova and Silvia Kadreva.
In total, ten officials are eligible to take up the position of caretaker prime minister.
