One hundred days before the start of one of the world’s most prestigious cycling races - the Giro d’Italia - Bulgaria is joining the international “Illuminations” initiative, the Ministry of Tourism announced.
For the first time in its 109-year history, the Giro d’Italia will start from Bulgaria and pass through dozens of municipalities across the country.

Giro d’Italia 2026 will start in Bulgaria with a stage from Nessebar to Burgas
The campaign envisages iconic cultural and historical landmarks in the host cities being illuminated in pink - the symbolic color of the race and of the legendary pink leader’s jersey, the maglia rosa.
In Bulgaria, these sites include the fortress walls of the Old Town of Nessebar, the Burgas Bridge, the Tsarevets Fortress in Veliko Tarnovo, the Kolodrom in Plovdiv, and Sofia’s National Palace of Culture.
“The Giro d’Italia is a way to showcase our country’s nature, culture, and history to millions of people around the world. By joining the Illuminations initiative, Bulgaria once again affirms its presence on the global tourism map as an attractive and diverse destination,” said outgoing Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh.
